A Boxing Club
Our Philsophy:
As we grow as a team and training program we will do our part in developing female boxing and kickboxing champions the old-fashioned way
........BY WORKING FOR IT.......
Our Stratergy
There are three(3) levels to our training program:
- Level I
Students spend the majority of training time conditioning their bodies and minds. This is done through calisthenic exercises and academic training. Students also spend quality time developing their fundamentals, i.e., proper shadow boxing delivery of technique and form. Later, partner drills are added to develop timing and interaction. - Level II
Lacing up the gloves or sparring, which builds sportsmanship and application. Throughout the training, Lee emphasizes competence and safety. In the Freeform Club, time is not an issue: what may take one person six months may take another person a year. For us, the important thing is that none of our members step into the ring without first being in good physical condition and our standards for conditioning are high. - Level III
Students who choose to, become competitors. We strongly believe in the hands on approach as part of our developmental phase. This way our boxers learn to work as part of a unit by constantly interacting with more experienced athletes.Fittness Training
Along with conditioning, which is the backbone of teamfreeform training, we emphasize the use of various training equipment such as focus pads for accuracy training; Thai pads, which are used for developing power at diverse angles and ranges; heavy bags for nonstop punching and kicking; top-and-bottom bag for timing and angles; and the speed bag for rhythm and shoulder strength.
The partner drills, mentioned above, are where you work with a classmate or trainer, one on one; these drills are another important part of the training. This personal part of the workout keeps the training organic and alive. There is no assembly-line training at our locations. We strongly believe in the hands on approach as part of our developmental phase. This way the student learns to work as part of a unit by constantly interacting with other trainers and other students.
We offer three(3) types of sparring:- Academic sparring :
- Trainees use a limited number of techniques against their training partners in order to develop a sense of timing and range, while at the same time learning how to execute those specific techniques taught. Example: left jab versus left jab or one trainee jabs while the other trainee slips.
- Flow sparring :
- Done with an advanced instructor/competitor and is a form of offensive vs. defensive maneuvers. The trainee or student usually goes harder than the instructor. What occurs here is that the trainee begins to understand the importance of balance and strategy in sparring. Truth is that most beginners find it very difficult to hit a skilled instructor, although the instructor isn't really hitting back, thus the trainee begins to appreciate the art of defense.
- Pre-competition or Open sparring:
- Two trainees work together freely and openly, developing their skills in the ring. In our program all sparring is done with 16oz-20oz gloves for the men and 14oz-16oz for the women as well as mouthpiece, sanctioned headgear, and groin cup (men) or breast protector (women.) We stress safety and respect to the utmost which creates the effectiveness in our time-proven training program.
